SERVICES TO YOUTH FACET
National Trends & Services Facet supports the Professional Women’s Group in partnership with Dress for Success (DFS), an internationally renowned not-for-profit organization. We embrace and support the DFS mission of empowering women to achieve economic independence. By providing a network of support and workshops that cover topics ranging from résumé writing to interviewing tutorials to providing information on financial literacy, women are better prepared for success in the workforce. Our most recent program for Dress for Success Alumni was a virtual workshop entitled “Combating Ageism in the Work Place.”
Our partnership with The Queens Public Library at Rochdale Village is a testament to our commitment to community engagement. Together, we have provided residents with workshops on financial literacy, etiquette coaching, personal development, and public speaking. This collaborative effort underscores our shared responsibility to foster community growth and development.
NTS is actively involved in supporting the students of P.S./I.S. 116Q. Our anti-bullying forums, which emphasize the importance of being an 'Upstander' rather than a 'Bystander,' are crucial in helping students navigate confrontational situations. We also support the school’s programming on cultural diversity and inclusion, recognizing the significance of these issues in our shifting ethnic and religious populations.
National Trends & Services
The National Trends & Services Facet has implemented civic engagement programming. The Facet conducted “Voter Registration Campaigns,” registering our young people 18 and older to participate in the political process. The campaigns took place at Queens Preparatory High School on the Springfield Gardens Educational Campus and the campus of CUNY/York College.
One of the highlights of our program year has been our ongoing partnership with HBCU Early College Prep High School in Jamaica, Queens, through our EmpowerHER initiative. EmpowerHER provides young women with opportunities for personal growth, social-emotional development, career and college readiness, civic engagement, HBCU exposure, and leadership development. Throughout the year, scholars participated in interactive workshops led by chapter members, community leaders, and subject matter experts.
The program year culminated in a special Bridging Ceremony celebrating 24 ninth-grade scholars who successfully completed the first year of EmpowerHER. Former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne E. Adams served as keynote speaker, and the scholars and program were also recognized by District 28 Superintendent Dr. Van-Ess. The photographs submitted highlight the scholars’ participation throughout the year, the relationships developed with chapter members and community partners, and the culminating celebration of their growth, achievement, and leadership.
The National Trends and Services facet of the Greater Queens Chapter of The Links, Incorporated works to address disparities and expand access to resources through advocacy, education, service, civic engagement, and community partnerships. Throughout the year, our work has focused on empowering individuals and families, increasing civic awareness, strengthening community connections, and creating meaningful opportunities for youth and adults across Queens.
Voter registration and civic engagement are a critical part of our legislative agenda. Through our Link Up the Vote efforts, we encourage eligible community members to register, understand the voting process, and make their voices heard. This work reflects our commitment to an informed and engaged community.
